Mar 14:3-5 KJV 3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. 4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
The Lord was in the house of a man called Simon the leper. He was no longer a leper but the stigma and the reproach of leprosy refused to leave him. Every such stigma of the devil be broken off our lives in Jesus name.
While they were at the meal, a woman came with an alabaster box of ointment or perfume, she broke the box and poured the content on the Lord Jesus and went ahead to use her hair to wipe his feet.
The Bible says the disciples were indignant about what she did. They said the alabaster could have been sold for such a high price and the money given to the poor.
Mar 14:5 KJV For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
Three hundred pence – About forty dollars (or 9 British pounds). The sum mentioned here would amount to nearly 10£ sterling.
We judge the quality and worthiness of perfume by their output scent.
Longevity: How long the scent last typically 6-8hrs
Sillage: The trail of scent left behind you as you move.
Blend quality: the ingredients should smell smooth and well blended.
How did they know that the alabaster cost that much? Did they see the label on it? Did they check the broken box? Has anyone of them ever used such before to really know the value? All those assumptions were possible and could be true but there is another factor that I felt made them come to that conclusion.
The Bible recorded that after Mary broke the box, something strange happened in that room that made Judas lead the protest. He knew that the alabaster would cost so much and the other disciples chorused his objection. The Bible says he was a thief. He lost something there and was pained Jn 12: 4-6.
So what happened in the room?
Joh 12:3 KJV Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
The house was filled with the odour of the ointment. That is it.
My question is where was the odour or perfume before now? It was locked up with the ointment inside the box. But as soon as the seal was broken, it flowed out and pervaded the whole room. Up till that time nobody was aware of what Mary was carrying, everything was ordinary until she broke the alabaster box.
There are good things much more than the scents of this perfume that are locked up in everyone of us especially born again Christians. We are like the alabaster box of ointment.
2Co 2:15 KJV For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
The word rendered here as “sweet savor” (euodia) occurs only in this place, and in Eph 5:2; Phi 4:18; and is applied to persons or things well-pleasing to God. It properly means good odor, or fragrance
As a matter of fact, when we become born again, the “garden of Eden” is placed in us. The odour is locked up in our spirit. Everything we will ever need, become and use is already made available in us. Paul says Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Col 1:27 KJV To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
All the fullness of Godhead dwells bodily in Christ Jesus and Jesus lives in us by His Spirit. Therefore we have everything, in fact God on the inside.
Col 2:9 KJV For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Col 1:19 KJV For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
1Jn 3:24 KJV And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
1Jn 4:15 KJV Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
How do you bring them out?
1. You must be convinced, acknowledged and persuaded that you are a carrier of something and be bold about it
It is easier to release what you have than trying to get something.
Col 1:29 KJV Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
1Jn 4:4 KJV Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
Mic 3:8 KJV But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.
Eph 3:20 KJV Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
When you are full; something begins to happen:
Luk 4:1 KJV And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Act 6:8 KJV And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
Act 7:55 KJV But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,
Act 11:24 KJV For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.
Even what we heal us is placed inside of us.
Rom 8:11 KJV But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
The same power that heals can also bless, deliver, give breakthroughs right from on the inside of a believer. It’s not outside of him.
Everything we will ever need is placed in us. Your breakthrough, anointing, joy, peace of mind, ability, grace, unction, fire, healing, solution, idea, knowledge, wisdom, design, etc are already inside of us.
2. Give it out-Break your Alabaster Box
A sealed alabaster box keeps the fragrance trapped inside. It was only when the vessel was broken that the entire room became filled with a beautiful spiritual impact, grace, and kingdom legacy when you allow yourself to be broken and poured out in service to God and others.
2Co 12:15 KJV And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
1Pe 4:10 KJV As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Look at what Peter said:
Act 3:6 KJV Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Act 28:8 KJV And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
Confess these: the ability of God is in me, the power of God is at work in me. I am full of the Holy Ghost and power.
They are waiting for you to manifest what you carry. That is the beauty of the kingdom.
Myles Munroe says the richest part of the world is a cemetery because people go there with all they were born with; talents, gifts, wisdom, knowledge, solutions to issues, potentials, songs, books, inventions, messages, etc. He admonished us to die empty. One man of God said I will not die with my Alabaster box. Break it. Your alabaster box is not given to you to remain sealed.
Rom 8:19 KJV For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
