THE EVENTS AT THE CROSS AND THEIR BENEFITS
Mat 27:50-55 KJV 50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. 51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; 52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, 53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. 54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God. 55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
When Jesus yielded or gave up His Spirit there were events that took place immediately. One was the rending of the veil of the temple.
The veil of the temple was rented] That is, the veil which separated the holy place, where the priests ministered, from the holy of holies, into which the high priest only entered, and that once a year, to make a general expiation for the sins of the people.
This rending of the veil was emblematical, and pointed out that the separation between Jews and Gentiles was now abolished, The rending of the veil signified the removal of the separation between God and the people and that the privilege of the high priest was now communicated to all mankind:
All might henceforth have access to the throne of grace, through the one great atonement and mediator, the Lord Jesus. See this beautifully illustrated in Heb 10:19-22.
Heb 10:19-22 KJV 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
2. There was an earthquake, the graves were opened and the dead came out.
Jesus had predicted that the time would come that the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God.”
Joh 5:25 KJV Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
The “loud voice” of the dying Jesus was heard in Hades. The graves were opened. And when he arose, who is the Firstborn from the dead, many bodies of the saints came out, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
What this means was that the dying loud voice of the Son of God imparted life to the dead saints and they woke up. They arose with Him at resurrection. This means whatever is dead in any man’s life shall receive resurrected life. Life shall be imparted unto them.
It also means that anyone living now must hear the voice of Jesus in order to live. Every man born of a woman is born dead in trespasses but when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, we hear His voice through the preaching of faith.
Eph 2:1 KJV And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Eph 2:5 KJV Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
This is what He said unto Ezekiel
Eze 37:12 KJV Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.
The graves are not the regular graves in the cemetery, so don’t be afraid.
out of your graves—out of your politically dead state, primarily in Babylon, finally hereafter in all lands (compare Eze 6:8; Hos 13:14 (refs2)). The Jews regarded the lands of their captivity and dispersion as their “graves”; their restoration was to be as “life from the dead” (Ro 11:15).
the cities and prisons in Chaldea and other places; where they were confined and held captives, and out of which they could no more deliver themselves than a dead man of himself can rise up out of his grave
Certain things today put people in “graves” like economy, state of the nation, lack, insufficiency, incapacitation, impotency, lack of ability, lack of money, poverty. But Jesus said a time is coming when the dead will hear the voice of the son of God. This is the time now.
Because of the crying out of the voice of Jesus, every confinement, limitation that are graves are broken up now in Jesus name. You are coming out of them in Jesus’ name. Say I refused to be confined.
3. The rocks were rented. When the rocks were rented in the old testament, something happened.
Num 20:11 KJV And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
He was not supposed to smite the rock, he was instructed to speak the rock Num 20: 8 because the rock had been smitten once in Ex 17: 6 and that typified the crucifixion of Jesus. Jesus was that rock.
1Co 10:4 KJV And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
He can’t be crucified again but now we are commanded to speak to the rock and when we do, it will release the content. Water must come forth. It is easier to speak than to smite which involves energy but speaking is easier.
He said out of your belly shall flow rivers (plural) of living waters.
Joh 7:38 KJV He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
Rivers of breakthrough, blessing, abundance, glory, marriage, fruitfulness, academic excellence, ministerial growth shall flow when we begin to speak. So, now speak, angels are waiting to carry out the voice of words.
Psa 103:20 KJV Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.
We speak because we believe.
2Co 4:13 KJV We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
Prayers:
I break free from every evil confinement and graves of the enemies in Jesus name. Whatever is buried we command you to come forth in Jesus name.
We speak to every rock now to yield its water. May the ground of your business, job bring forth its content now in Jesus name.
