Following the right guide produces favour
Guidance is an act or process of guiding people with the aim of making the right choice and decision in life. In the multitude of counsellor, purposes are established. There is no doubt that we need the service of the right counsellor when we come to the crossroad of life.

Est 2:15 KJV Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.

The story of Esther is well known to many Bible students. She was an exile orphan who lived with her uncle Mordecai. There was a vacancy in the palace because of the misdeeds of the former queen Vashti. A lot of maidens were conscripted into the palace and from such crowd, the king was to choose one of them. The maidens were given to a male eunuch who prepares them.

The maidens were going to be treated with beauty treatment for 12 months, then they were to see the king in the evening and in the morning moved to the other side of the palace into the other hand of another eunuch.
This was what was happening until the turn of Esther came to see the king.

The Bible made a remarkable statement that Esther did not request from the man in charge of the maiden Hegai anything. It was only the things that Hegai recommended and gave to her were the things that Esther used, applied and took along. This was unusual because all the other maidens chose for themselves what they think was necessary and useful but Esther did not do like that.

What was the result? In the same verse the Bible says she obtained favour in the sight of all that looked upon her and most importantly, the king delighted in her and was chosen to be queen instead of Vashti.
What was the reason for that success?

Esther couldn’t be the most beautiful maiden and she has no other advantage over the remaining maidens that were brought into the palace like herself. But while other maidens were choosing their own things she let the man Hegai who was and had been in charge of previous queens and ladies to choose treatment things for her. Hegai knew what the king desire and love most from all his women because he had been in the palace for as long as anyone could remember. He had been an intimate person in the house who know what and what the king likes and dislikes. So it is a great decision and a wise one for that matter.
Most time we relied on our own understanding, knowledge and ability and many times it bounces back at our faces. Here is what the book of proverb has to say on leaning on oneself in handling the affairs of life:

Pro 3:5-7 KJV 5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
Isa 5:21 KJV Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

Under the New Covenant, there is also an Hegai for us. The Bible talked about the Holy Spirt and He is called “parakletos”. He is a comforter, aid, helper and He is to help and assist us.

Rom.8:26-27 KJV 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

He the Holy Spirit intercedes for us when we don’t know what to pray for as we ought. It is not that we don’t know how to pray, we do and we can learn if we see ourselves deficient in that area we could have been taught. But the crucial thing is that we don’t know what we ought to say the way it ought to be said.

Another fact is that the Holy Spirit in our hearts searches our hearts and since God knows the mind of the Spirit, whatever the Spirit is saying is according to the will of God since He the Holy Spirit already knows the mind of God. He is able to intercede according to the will of God. This will make us not pray amiss as James warns.
Since we have the Holy Spirt on our side then we can talk or speak to God the Father in the language of the Holy Spirit and we are sure that God hears us.

1Cor 14:2 KJV For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

Following the leading oof the Holy Spirit is the best thing that can ever happen to any man. He knows the mind of God and we can rely on Him to help us when we don’t know what we ought to say in prayer.

Joh 16:13 KJV Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The Holy Spirit guided the Apostles on where to preach:

Act 16:6-9 KJV 6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, 7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. 8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
In the multitude of counsellors there is safety. Holy Spirit is our counsellor and He will guide you right.
