2Sa 6:1-12 KJV 1 Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims. 3 And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart. 4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the ark of God: and Ahio went before the ark. 5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals. 6 And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God. 8 And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day. 9 And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me? 10 So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite. 11 And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household. 12 And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
God wants to bless our families and this month our families will prosper and increase in Jesus name.
However, there are things we can do to attract the blessings of God to us and our families which will cause neighbours and friends to envy us. That will be our portions in Jesus name.
In the text we read, the ark of God had been in a foreign land for almost fifty years. Nobody was offering sacrifice or worship towards it.
The Philistine had taken the ark and it was brought to another foreign land. Whatever has been taken away from you shall be recovered in Jesus name.
IN the text we read, David went to bring the ark of God that had been staying in a foreign land, The made arrangements and the ark was placed on a new cart. The ark ought to be carried by the Levites and not by the Ass. While they were going, the Ass stumbled and in a bid to save the ark, a man called Uzza held the ark but he was struck dead by God. The Bible called it an error because no one except the Levites were to touch the ark. The disobedience of Uzza cost him his life.
There are many Christians today that profane the things, we treat the things of God with disregards and levity. This is a lesson for everyone. Even though under the New covenant God is not going to smite us like He smote Uzzah, we still need to reference God and everything that belongs to Him and His sanctuary.
Every error that leads to destruction of lives and properties shall not be your portions in Jesus name.
Because of what happened, David was very displeased, he was not displeased at God but at himself. If they had done the right thing, Uzza would not have touched the ark and he would have been spared. It was David’s error of negligence that caused the whole problem.
Every error by other people that will lead to destruction of lives and properties shall not be our portions in Jesus name.
Because of what happened, David decided to take the ark to another person’s house; the man called Obed edom the Gittite. which was close by, on one side of the place where they were; this man was a Levite,
How many people will accept to receive the ark that just killed someone into their house?
Today many people run away from the things of God. They run away from fellowship, prayer meetings and Bible study. People are not committed to the things of God and yet they want the blessings of God. We must change our ways.
But Obededom accepted to receive the ark and the ark was in his house. What was Obededom doing with the ark? What was his relationship with the ark? What was the significance of him hosting the ark?
1. The ark represented the presence of God. In order words, Obededom had the presence of God in his house. The psalmist says that he that dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty Ps 91: 1. The conscious presence of God protects.
2. Obededom also kept the ark that was committed into his hand. When the things of God are committed to us for upkeep, we should do all it takes to take care of it and protect it. All through the period the ark stayed in his house there was no damage or stealing of its content.
How do you keep the things of God kept in your hands? Can you render a proper account of it? The gifts and talents of God are kept with you, can you render account of how you are taking care of it? The servants were asked to give accounts of their master’s talents when he came back.
3. The ark is where the priest worshiped. The ark afforded Obededom a place to worship God in his house. While others ran away from it, he accepted and worshiped God with it. When we worship God, we attract Him into our affairs.
4. In receiving the ark, Obededom exhibited faith. While others including king David ran away from the ark, Obededom received it. Faith pleases God. Heb 11: 6. Faith turned the house of edom into a temple of worship. Whatever is not of faith is sin. We must exhibit faith when dealing with the things of God.
What was the result of all these?
2Sa 6:11 KJV And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.
God blessed Obededom and everything in his house.
The ark was in the house of Obededom for three months, and “the Lord blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.” Why was this? Obed-edom was a Levite. He had been prepared by God to minister before it.
None but a prepared heart can enjoy Christ. The ark was at home with Obed-edom, and he with it. So it is always with Christ and his people.
But God not only blessed Obed-edom and his family; significant words were added, and all that he had. ” Everything went right with Obed-edom, in his house, his family, his duties, his joys, and his sorrows, because the ark was there.
What a lesson! Why do things not go right with you? Because Christ has not his right place in your heart, in your affections, in your home, in your duties, and in all you have. Let Christ be in all, and then it cannot but be with you as it was with Obed-edom, “the Lord blessed his house, and all that he had.
Josephus an historian says, that Obededom was very poor before, and in a low condition, out of which he soon emerged, and came into affluent circumstances, so as to be taken notice of by his neighbours, and reported abroad; by which means David came to the hearing of it, as follows.
God lifted Obededom from among the poor to become the envy of the kings because of his attitude towards the ark of God.
1Sa 2:8 KJV He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’S, and he hath set the world upon them.
He didn’t not despise it, abandon it, scorn it or treat it with neglect but he was drawn to it for three months and his story changed for life.
Whatever is committed into your hand, value it, appreciate it, use it to the glory of God, these will attract the same blessings that came on Obededom into your family.
The ark brought forth blessings for Obededom, may you be able to receive the things of God that will bless your family in Jesus name.
May God change your own story and that of your families in Jesus name.
THE EFFECT OF THE BLESSING ON DAVID.
2Sa 6:12 KJV And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
He was reassured, and took measures, at once more according to the Law and more successful, for fulfilling his purpose to bring the ark to Zion. Similarly, the aspect presented by families which serve God and manifestly enjoy his blessing is adapted to incite, and has often incited, others to go and do likewise.
Finally, families which regard not God may have many desirable things, but cannot really enjoy the Divine blessing. “The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked,” while “he blesseth the habitation of the just”. Pro 3:33
When God blessed Obededom, it was apparent to all his neighbours. Everybody noticed it and the news went viral until David heard of it and came to take the Ark away from Obededom’s house. When God blesses you, people will hear of it. until your blessings made the unbelievers to envy you and crave for your God, you are yet to tap into the grace of New Testament blessing. When God blessed Isaac, his neighbours envied him and even asked him to leave their country because they couldn’t compete with him. May such be your story in Jesus name.
Every curse or covenant of poverty upon my life and destiny as I Moray now be broken in Jesus name.
Prayers
Any yoke and curse of financial hardship, financial struggling and financial imbalance upon my life be broken now in Jesus name
Every yoke of debt, borrowing, lack and insufficiency as in pray now be terminated in Jesus name
Power for wealth, anointing for financial prosperity I receive now, manifest now in Jesus name.
Every demonic blanket and covering spread over my life,receiving fire now in Jesus name.
I receive divine connection, divine link, divine help and assistance, angelic intervention, angelic ministration
I receive anointing for success in all my endeavour.
Every yoke of limitation, restriction and demonic embargo upon my life
