THE LORD WILL DIRECT YOUR PATH

HE WILL DIRECT YOUR PATH

Life is a journey. The world is full of trials and problems. You need directions at every phase of the journey otherwise one may end up spending years pursuing wrong directions. There are many people that are confused and directionless in life today. This teaching will show us it ought not to be so. God has not left us without instructions and directions.

Gen 37:12-17 KJV 12 And his brethren went to feed their father’s flock in Shechem. 13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I. 14 And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. 15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou? 16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they feed their flocks. 17 And the man said, They are departed hence; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

Joseph was sent by his father Jacob to go and see how his elder brothers were doing in the wilderness. He was actually told the specific place where they were but on getting there he could not find them. Joseph became confused and was wandering in the field.

The Hebrew word used for wandering in that statement is “tâ‛âh”. It means

to err, wander, go astray, stagger, be made to stagger (drunkard), vacillate and be out of the way.. In order words, he was walking up and down in the field without a specific place to go to. He has lost direction.

There are many people in life who are just like Joseph. They have lost a sense of direction in life, moving aimlessly up and down. They wake up in the morning and come back in the night but have zero job done. They are busy doing nothing. It seems they are doing something or working but its not true, at the end of the day the have nothing to show for all the activities of the day. I have said it before that if you keep seeing the same thing even though you are moving, you are walking in a circle and round about. As I pray now, every yoke of circle is broken totally in in Jesus name.

Joseph was in that condition until a certain man found him and asked him where he was going and where he was coming from. Who was he looking for? the Bible didn’t tell us who this man was but the good news was that he told him about his brothers and the direction they went to thereby terminating the wandering movement of Joseph. The certain man could be an angel that appears in human form or could be a human being. But whatever, a certain man found him. This year, a certain man shall locate you. In that your business, in your quest for whom to marry, a certain shall find you in Jesus name.

The Lord is interested in people and the way they go in life, He doesn’t want people to move aimlessly in life wasting time, energy and resources. When a man does not know where he is heading to, he wastes time, energy and resources. You start a business today and tomorrow you close the shop and start another, just beating about the bush. I break that yoke today in Jesus name.

Psalm 143:8 KJV Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Psalm 37:23 KJV The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.

The Hebrew word used for “step” there means going or journey. The Lord directed and established his going. There are instances in the bible where the Lord ordered the steps of people and gave them specific directions.

After the mighty crusade in Samaria, one would have expected Philip to stay behind, pastor the church and make sure they grow but God had another assignment for him.

Act 8:26 KJV And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

The angel told him the specific road he was to take. There were two roads to Gaza; one was in the desert and the other in the populous city, there was no way he could miss it and true to it, he met the man that the angel saw trying to get a clue to the gospel and needed to be saved.

It was that encounter that brought the gospel to Africa. Philip was connected to a powerful man in the government.

May you be directed to where your service is needed in life. It is not good enough to be an expert and a professional. You may be one and be wasting away in a low place, but when your steps are directed, it will take you to a better place and connect you to people that matter.

As Christians, we need to be directed to harvest that are ripe for salvation and not wander aimlessly around the street looking for whom to preach to. Such was the case of Saul who had been a threat to the new faith until he had an encounter with the Lord on his way to Damascus. May every troubler of your peace be arrested in such manner in Jesus name.

Act 9:11 KJV And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,

God sent a disciple named Ananias to go and meet him but he was reluctant to go due to what he had heard about Saul. But my point is that the Lord gave Ananias the specific street and house where Saul was lodging. When next you go out on evangelism, may the Lord direct your path to such people. Saul was already praying seeking salvation because the Lord Jesus could not preach or lead him to Himself during the encounter, he directed to go to a city and Jesus later arranged for somebody that will lead him to the Lord. You can see that even the Lord could no longer preach to anybody no matter how much he wanted them saved. We are responsible.

There was another incident where the angel could not also preach the good news. It took place in the house of Cornelius. Cornelius had been fasting and praying and he had an encounter with God in a vision. An angel appeared unto him but he could not preach but gave him specific direction to Peter’s house.

Act 10:5-6 KJV 5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

Peter was lodging as a guest in Joppa which was by the sea side and was in the house of a tanner. The exact location was given by the angel and do you know that the people Cornelius sent got the address right.

In Act 16 while seeking and preparing to preach the gospel, Paul was specifically directed to where his efforts would yield abundant results.

Act 16:6-10 KJV 6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, 7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. 8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

We are not told why Paul and his companions were forbidden from preaching in those places, probably the doors were not opened yet for them or they were not ready for salvation. Whichever, Paul and Silas obeyed. The Holy Spirit has been given unto us and he dwells inside of every one of us to give us direction. We don’t even need anyone to teach us the way of the Lord, we all have the indwelling presence of the Lord. WE can hear Him for ourselves.

John 14:26 KJV But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The men of Old Testament were guided too by the Holy Spirit who comes on the prophets, Priest, kings, certain people for a particular purpose of revealing the mind of God. But under the New Testament, we are very privileged that He lives in us. All Christ people are prophets today.

THE HOLY GHOST LEADS BY INWARD IMPULSES. Men’s actions are decided upon more subtle motives and considerations than they usually imagine. Perhaps it would be found that very few of them depended upon decisions of the intellect. Some result from careful judgment; some from self-will or passion; some from emotion; and many men are led by the passing influences of the hour. Men are acted upon by many influences, which reach the mind, the heart, or the will. But the supreme inward influence is that of the Divine Spirit. He has access to every part of our inward being. He can

(1) suggest thought for consideration;

(2) direct the judgment to wise decisions;

(3) move the will to fitting resolves;

(4) tone the feelings to right harmonies;

(5) and preside over the plans which are formed

Many don’t know the way the Holy Spirit leads. It is by missing this relation of the Holy Ghost to the very springs of action within us, that men Christian men so often doubtingly ask, But how can we know that we are doing what God would have us do?” Openness to God’s inward lead is surely followed by God ”s response in an inward leading; and when we are set right towards God we may feel sure that the decisions of our judgment and the resolves of our will are divinely controlled and ordered. St. Paul followed the inward feeling that he must not go into Mysia, etc.

THE HOLY GHOST LEADS THROUGH PROVIDENTIAL CIRCUMSTANCES. These will always be found to match the inward leadings, and they help to give us assurance that we are following in the way that we should go. Nothing is more surprising in our lives than the opening of providential doors. If we will but

(1) wait,

(2) watch, and

(3) pray,

the path will surely clear before us, and the Divine finger points at us, and the Divine voice in circumstances says, “This is the way, walk ye in it.” We may, on this matter, fall into errors which may seriously depress us.

God will speak to you through your spirit. This is through inward intuition and knowing or perception.

Job 32:8 KJV But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.

Pro 20:27 KJV The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Since your spirit is joined with the Holy Spirit in you, your born again will pick information, desires and intents of the Spirit and relates them to your mind. It comes like you feel like doing something or ii feel I should do something.  This is the primary way the Holy Spirit speaks to us and gives us direction. The issues is that it comes in the first person and not third person, so many people have missed it. They think it is them that is having such thoughts.

Paul expected no external revelations and no miraculous guidance. In whatever way he realized the presence and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it was a way in which we may realize it too

There was a time when Jesus told the disciples that where He was going they too will soon come but one of the disciples said the Lord should show them the way. The Lord said He is the way, the truth and the life and no one can come to the father except by Him.

John 14:4-6 KJV 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus is the way to your happiness, joy, peace, salvation. Jesus is the solution to this ailing world. The way to life and having its fullness is in the Lord Jesus.

One of the best ways of knowing the mind of the Holy Spirit is through the word of God. He will show you what to do, where to go, whom to marry, which business to go into and where to relocate to. Where there are no specific directions, there are general principles we may follow which will act as a guide to us.

Psa 25:12 KJV What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.

In choosing whom to marry, business or vocation to engage in, the word will show you.
