HOW TO OVERCOME THE THREAT OF THE ENEMY

Threat is defined by dictionary as an expression of intent to injure or punish another. It is a desire for somebody to inflict injury or harm on another person.

Gen 27:41-46 KJV 41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob. 42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee. 43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran; 44 And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother’s fury turn away; 45 Until thy brother’s anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day? 46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?

In the text that was read for us, Esau was very angry against his own blood brother. What happened?
One day their father Isaac called Esau and asked him to go and prepare venison or soup that he Isaac may eat and then bless him before he will die.
You will see the story from verse one.
While he was talking to Esau, Rebecca the mother of the twin brothers heard what Isaac was saying and because she loved Jacob much more than Esau, she told Jacob to go and bring one fat animal from his flock and she will prepare it and Jacob will present it to their father.
Can i pray for you every where they are planning against you they shall be exposed in Jesus name.
Even though Jacob did not want to do it but his mother persuaded him and he went and brought the meal to his father. isaac blessed Jacob and Jacob went away.

Can i pray for you again, every power hijacking what belongs to you shall perish by fire in Jesus name.

As soon as Jacob left, Esau came in with his venison but it was too late. His blessings had been taken away by Jacob. He cried and begged his father for just one blessing but there was none left.
Whatever has stolen what belongs to you shall release it by fire in Jesus name.
It was because of this anger that made Esau to made the statement we read in verse 41 when he said he will slay his brother Jacob because of what that one did.
How did Jacob respond to the threat of his brother? When the mother heard the words of Esau, she made another plan and told Isaac that Jacob need to run away. Jacob ran away from his brother and the sad thing was that was the last time he saw his mother Rebecca.

When you study the lives of the family very well, the blessings actually belonged to Jacob because God had ordained it so even before the twins were born and Rebecca didn’t need to help God. Whatever belongs to you, you shall receive it in Jesus name.
There was another man like that, he behaved like Jacob when he was threatened.

1Ki 19:1-3 KJV 1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. 3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

Elijah had just performed a wonderful feat on mount Carmel where 45o worshipers of Baal wer killed. He went back to town but Ahab the king narrated what happened to his wife Jezebel who happened to be the chief worshiper of Baal. She was not there when the killing was done.
Jezebel wrote a letter to Elijah threatening that he too will die like those 450 Baal worshipers. When Elijah received the letter, i was thinking he will call down fire from heaven as he did the previous day and consume Jezebel but the Bible said when he saw the note, he took off to his heels ad ran away. Elijah the prophet ran away from a woman with a note. he ran away for his life.
Every power after your life shall be disgraced this month in Jesus name.

There are many of us that we have been threatened in one way or the other. Some threat comes from fellow workers, bosses, landlord, enemy, people that are stronger than us, despots. Some threat comes in form of words or in dreams. There are many people that they have ben threatened to die before the end of the year. Some have been threatened that they will not matter in life. Some people have invoked curses on another person. Many of us have received letter of threat. There is threat to peace and security in our nation.

Every threat over your life shall not materialize in Jesus name
How do you respond to threat? Are you going to run away like Jacob and hide? Are you going to panic and be subdue all your lives? Are you going to just laugh it off that it doesn’t matter? What are the appropriate ways of responding to any form of threat that comes our ways in our homes, bossiness premises, in our families and around us?

We will see some case studies in the Bible on how people of God that were threatened handled them and we can learn how to handle ours too.
Nehemiah received the commission from God to build the walls of Jerusalem that was burnt with fire. While they were building many people reproached them, they laughed at them and abused them because of the building.

Very soon every one laughing at you will soon laugh with you in Jesus name.
When they discovered that Nehemiah and his men were not bothered they conspired against them.

Neh 4:7-9 KJV 7 But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth, 8 And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it. 9 Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

How did Nehemiah responded to their threat? He saids in verse 9 that they made their prayers unto God. Nehemiah prayed unto God committing himself and his brethren unto God and spoke to God about the enemies. I believe God gave him wisdom to know what to do. Nehemiah did not only pray but he acted on his prayer.

Neh 4:16-18 KJV 16 And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah. 17 They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon. 18 For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

They armed themselves, they built with one hand and had their weapon in one hand, praise God. May God put those Sambalat and Tobiah of your life to shame in Jesus name.
In the days of Hezekiah, king of Assyria wrote a letter to him threatening him. He even reproached Hezekiah and asked him not to trust his God because the gods of other nations were not able to deliver them from his hand so what made Hezekiah think that his God will deliver him.

Isa 36:18-20 KJV 18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 20 Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

There are many of us that are being threatened like this and people are reproaching us, asking where is your God you serve day and night. Can i pray for you?
Every power reproaching your God, asking where is your God? That power shall be disgraced today in Jesus name.
What did Hezekiah do when he received the letter and the threat of the enemy?

Isa 37:1-2 KJV 1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. 2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

Hezekiah went in to the house of God, and he informed God’s servant prophet Isaiah. Anytime we are in trouble or we are threatened in any way or the other, this is the best approach. They prayed unto God and something happened.

Isa 37:36-38 KJV 36 Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. 37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. 38 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

One angel smote all the armies of Sennacherib in one night. Every power that has risen against you shall die by fire in Jesus name.
In the new Testament, the apostles were threatened by the highest council in the land. They warned them not to preach the gospel again and they should not talk to anyone in the name of Jesus. But this is contrary to what Christ has told them.

Act 4:17-18 KJV 17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

Act 4:21 KJV So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

How did the apostles handled it?

Act 4:23-24 KJV 23 And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. 24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

There was mighty sign and wonder that followed their prayers

Act 4:31 KJV And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

When we pray, we will receive answer. the threat will be aborted and the enemy will be put to shame. We should not trivalise the threat of anyone and at the same time we should not be afraid because God is with us and he will put them to shame. Nehemiah took hold of his weapons, we too should take hold of prayer night and day and we will see good result in Jesus name.
Prayer:
Every threat against my life and destiny, be destroyed in Jesus name.
Where ever they are planning against my life and destiny, Oh Lord expose them and disgrace them now in Jesus name.
