Turn your life around

What is the purpose of our mouth? Some folks will say that is obvious, the mouth is for talking and eating food and drinking water. But i tell you the mouth is designed for a greater assignment than just eating and drinking or talking. The Greek word for mouth is “stomai” and it means “a sharp edge of a weapon” The tongue or mouth is a tool or weapon purposely designed for offensive and defensive works.

Rev 1:16 KJV And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

Rev 19:15 KJV And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

I believe that what the Bible says here that a sharp twoedged sword proceeded from the mouth of Jesus is a analogy or picturesque of words. The words coming out of His mouth is described to be like a sharp twoedged sword.

If you know that under the new Covenant, whatever has become of Jesus has become of us, then you will appreciate your mouth from now on as we discuss one of the importance or reasons why you have your mouth.

Jas 3:1-8 KJV 1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

In the text we read Apostle James was admonishing the body of Christ on importance of restraining of our tongues. And he said anyone who did not offend in words that he speaks is a perfect man or a mature man.

He said that man that is adduced to be perfect is able to bridle the whole body. In order words, one of the signs of being a mature or perfect is not your ability to speak in tongues, heal the sick or do any thing but your ability to bridle the whole body as he said in verse two.

The word bridle means: ‘to curb’, ‘hold in check’, ‘guide’ and ‘restrain’.

James illustrates bridling to handling horse, that a we put bits on the mouth of horse for two reasons; that they may obey us and that we may turn their whole body.
Naturally horses are big animals that without bits in their mouths, its pretty difficult to handle them. But when a bit is put in it’s mouth you can hold the rein, that is the rope and turn the horse anywhere you want.

The body of the horse follows its body. It will go in the direction of its mouth. You want it to go to the left, just turn the mouth to the left side and the horse will change direction. Same thing for the right. You want it to run while walking just raise the bit up and it will run.

Another illustration he uses was that of a ship. Ships are big but the captain or helmsman control the direction it will go by the use of a small rudder or helm. The wind may be contrary but the rudder or helm will push the ship to the direction the captain wants. Wherever he listeth.
That word “listeth”is significant. It means; ‘willeth’, so the ship will go not where it wants to go or wishes to go or where the wind may impelled it to go and its totally out of control and left on his own, but the ship will go to where the captain or rudderman or helmsman desires the ship to go. It is under his control because of the rudder.. the ship cannot just go wherever it likes but where the captain wants.

The Bible says that the tongue is a little member and it can do and undo. If we govern our tongue, it is able to bridle or control our bodies. And by extension our conducts and lives.
Our tongues gives expression to our thoughts and our thoughts give expression to our habits, habits produce character and character produces destiny.

If we take hold of our tongues, we can give expression to good thoughts from our mind and as a man thinketh in his heart so is he, Prov 23:7
.
Life is journey, your tongue will silence the wind, Bible says the ships are driven by fierce winds. If the wind is contrary to the direction the helmsman wants to go, the ship will capsized. But the rudder will direct the ship in the right direction. Our tongue or mouth will silence the wind and move the ship of our lives in a proper direction.

Our lives may want to go where the wind of life wants to push it, the swage of life and if you don’t have a rudder or use your rudder the winds of life will blow the ship to where you don’t want. But the tongue is given to us to bring the ship under control.

The fierce winds may also denote human passions, which the government of the tongue controls. Human passion like anger, malice, brawling, lusts, the tongue like rudder can bring it under control
The little helm controlleth the fury of the winds and waves.

Case study is when Jesus spoke to the roaring storm and the wind ceased.

Mar 4:39 KJV And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

In verse six, the bible says that the tongue sets on fire the course of nature. The Greek word actually means the wheel of nature or the wheel of life. The wheel that is set in motion at birth and runs on to the close of life. The revolving wheel is kindled by the tongue and rolls on in destructive blaze. This will happen if the tongue is not kept under control, it will take your life away in a wrong direction. destroy your life. But under good control of Holy Spirit, the wheel of life will go in the direction of your destiny.

Ever seen a long truck before that is trying to negotiate a bend? The head will move first then the head will follow. When the head bend in the direction the driver wanted, it’s only a matter of time before the whole body follows.
It doesn’t matter where your life seems to be heading now, you can bring it back in the right direction with the your mouth. You can change the course of your life, move in the desire direction and even accelerate faster than before.

Start speaking faith filled word today an watch your life move forward in Jesus name. Command the storms of life that wants to detour, change your direction, agitates and destroy your journey. Jesus spoke and the winds causing the agitation of the sea was silenced. There was a great calm. From today, there shall be a great calm for you in Jesus name.
